What is an EMDR Therapy Intensive?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR )is a research-backed therapy that helps reduce anxiety, reprocess trauma, and shift deeply held negative beliefs.
Traditional (EMDR) is highly effective, but weekly 45-minute sessions may slow down the progress of deep emotional work. An EMDR Therapy Intensive condenses this process into longer, structured sessions, allowing for faster healing with fewer interruptions.
Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR Intensives include:
✔ A personalized workbook to help prepare for the intensive experience.
✔ Pre-session review and planning, ensuring therapy is targeted and efficient.
✔ Extended EMDR sessions designed for deep, uninterrupted processing.
Since trauma is stored both in the mind and body, longer, immersive sessions provide space for deeper emotional regulation and nervous system healing.
This format ensures you receive more than just session time. You get a customized therapeutic experience.
Is an EMDR therapy Intensive Right for You?
This approach may be especially helpful if you are:
✔ Feeling stuck in anxiety, despite all your coping tools. The overthinking, the racing thoughts, and the constant tension never really let up.
✔ Carrying unresolved trauma, whether it’s a single event or a series of early experiences that quietly shaped your self-worth.
✔ Struggling with imposter syndrome, feeling like a fraud despite your achievements, and constantly shrinking yourself to avoid being “too much.”
✔ In the midst of a major life transition such as a career change, loss, move, or relationship shift. And you want to feel steady and clear-headed.
✔ Tired of endlessly talking about the problem and ready to do the deeper work
✔ Looking for real progress in a short amount of time
However, this may not be the best fit if:
❌ You are in crisis or need ongoing stabilization before doing deep trauma work.
❌ You prefer a slower-paced approach with more time to process between sessions.
❌ You are not yet ready to engage in immersive, focused therapy.
Not sure where you fall? Let’s talk. I’ll help you decide what kind of support best fits your needs right now.
Can an EMDR Intensive Be an Adjunct Treatment?
Yes! EMDR Intensives can be used as an adjunct to your current therapy.
If you’re already working with a therapist but feel stuck in certain areas, an EMDR Intensive can help process those blocks more efficiently. For example, if a past trauma or negative self-belief is keeping you from making progress in therapy, an intensive may provide the breakthrough you need.
This approach allows you to:
✔ Gain faster relief from a specific issue while continuing long-term work with your current therapist.
✔ Deepen your healing without disrupting your existing therapeutic relationship.
✔ Experience targeted trauma processing in a focused, structured format.
If you’re a therapist considering an EMDR Intensive for your client, this can be a powerful supplement to their ongoing treatment. Since weekly sessions don’t always allow for deeper trauma processing, an intensive can help clients address underlying issues more effectively. The goal is to accelerate healing in a safe, contained way before they continue their work with you.
📌 When appropriate, I’m happy to coordinate with referring therapists to ensure a seamless experience for the client. This collaboration allows us to integrate insights gained from the intensive into their ongoing therapy, leading to more lasting growth.
